NICF’s Fitter of the Year competition 2026

The UK flooring industry’s premier showcase of skill and craftsmanship is back.

 

The National Institute of Carpet & Floorlayers (NICF) has launched the 2026 Fitter of the Year Open competition, inviting flooring professionals to test their expertise, precision, and creativity. This competition celebrates outstanding installers and is one of the most respected practical challenges in the sector.

 

This year, the focus is on carpet installation, with entrants navigating a multi-stage journey culminating at The Flooring Show, Harrogate, on 20–21 September 2026. Competitors will be judged on technical ability, attention to detail, and real-world problem-solving, proving their skills under the watchful eyes of industry experts.

 

The competition begins with a written entry and questionnaire, assessing knowledge of carpet fitting standards and techniques. Entries are open now, with a deadline of 30 April 2026. The top 12 candidates from this stage will advance to semi-final practical trials at the InstallerSHOW, in June, where hands-on skill takes centre stage.

 

Finalists will then receive a briefing to prepare for a Judges’ Challenge in the grand final. The ultimate winner will be crowned at The Flooring Show in Harrogate 20-22 September, receiving a £2,000 cash prize, a winner’s trophy, premium tools from sponsors, and a year’s free NICF Master Fitter membership.

 

The competition is open to flooring fitters aged 18 and over. NICF membership is not required to enter, and past winners are excluded. To participate, candidates must complete the online entry form and questionnaire before 30 April 2026.
